Very often we are asked which perfume is better? Oil or spray? Which ones last longer? Which should I choose? In this article, we will try to answer these questions. We hope the answers will help you to choose between these two different fragrances.

What is the difference between using oil-based and spray perfumes?

The first difference between the two is how the perfume is used. The oil perfume has a round rotating ball at the top of the bottle. It is used to apply perfume to the skin. They are best applied to the pulsating areas of the body – wrists, skin behind the ears, neck. They fit gently to the body, absorb easily into the skin and do not cause a scent trail around the person.

The sprayed perfume is deposited on the skin by means of an atomizer, so no skin contact is necessary. These perfumes are diluted with perfumers’ diluents and may contain a small amount of the actual fragrance essence (5-15%). All our fragrance sprays have a 60/40 ratio – 60% perfume diluent and 40% essence. This maintains the high quality of production in accordance with

Which ones last longer?

A very common question that determines the quality and price of a perfume is “which perfume lasts the longest?”. In this case, the standard EDP, EDT and EDC labels should be forgotten, as essenia = concentrate. Oil perfumes are 100% fragrance essence and do not contain any perfumery diluents. Essence often stays on the skin for 8 to 10h. They tend to stick to the body and last for a very long time, but everyone’s skin is different and not everyone who buys the lubricated version can boast that the scent lasts for more than 6-8 hours. Also, oil perfumes should be handled with particular care when wearing light-coloured clothing.

Spray-on perfumes, meanwhile, can be lavished on both skin and clothes. More perfume in the atomizers allows you to breathe more and more often. The perfume stays on the skin for 5-8 hours when sprayed normally, while on textiles, a hint of the delicate essence can linger until the garment is washed.

Which smell is stronger?

You won’t find much difference in the intensity of the scent, but there is a difference in the way the scents of the two variants unfold. In an oil perfume, the main notes of the scent, which last the longest, emerge much more quickly. So, when you try an oil fragrance on your skin in a perfume shop, you’ll know its main scent immediately.

Spray-on fragrances have a slower unfolding, allowing you to get to know the different compositions of the top, base and bottom notes. Imagine the difference between eating in a restaurant and cooking at home. In a restaurant, you get your food and the aromas from it are consistent, whereas home-cooked food enriches you with different aromas right up to the preparation.

What should I choose?

Before choosing an oil or spray option, you should first answer the following questions:

  1. How do you prefer to use perfume: apply or spray on your skin?
  2. Do you want others to smell your perfume easily?
  3. Do you want to carry your perfume comfortably with you? (applied perfumes are often also called pocket perfumes, as they fit comfortably in both a handbag and a pocket)
